He was from Galilee, that's north of the kingdom of Judah. The peoples of Judah were not Hebrew Israelites but mostly Edomites at that time. Jews were anyone that was a subject of that kingdom and most followed the wisdom the elders which added tons of strictures to the Torah, the Pharisees. Jesus called them the synagogue of Satan. There were some Sadducees, who wanted to almost away with the importance of following the Torah but were wiped out near that time in rebellions with the Romans.
Jesus was of the tribe of yauhdah, where Judah gets its eventual name, but he was not born in Judah or a subject Judah or followed the wisdom of the elders of the Jews which later became Talmud.
Most would be surprised bt Jesus wasn't a Jew.
